Respoce Blog to Movie
October Sky is a movie about dreams. In this movie a boy living in a mining community has an ambition for rocket building and space. The boys name is Homer Hickam. He faced many problems through out the story, but later he realized that dreams are meant for coming true. That makes him achieve his goal and become a stronger individual. This movie had a lot of science and character education in it.This movie was located in a town that runs on coal mining. So, obviously many people work in the coal mines. The noxious gasses in the mine cause many people to have cancer and eventually die. The science here is that people didn't have much knowledge about lung cancer then. Also, coal mining can be very dangerous. In the movie, Homers dad gets seriously injured because the coal collapsed. This is very dangerous and expensive. Coal mining takes a lot of work and most of America's economy survives because of coal. A physical science part of this movie was when there was a chemical reaction in the sink. Homer pours a chemical down the sink so he wouldn't get caught. After that someone put a match in their sink and for a split second, the sink caught on fire. This was a chemical reaction. Another example of earth science is when Homer's dad rescues a man in the mine. The coal was about to collapse on him. This is physical science because Homer's dad had to physically move to save a person from dieing.Homer and his friends used math to show that they did not create a forest fire. Homer went to class and showed the principal the math. He used geometry to show. After the math, everyone found out that the forest fire wasn't caused by a rocket Homer and his friends launched. This also shows that Homer had enough courage to show his innocence. This movie showed a lot of character education. Homer had respect for his dad, but his dad did not have much for him. Homer did whatever his dad said, except for working in the mines. Homer was taking full responsibility on what he was learning. Homer also has self control. When his dad gets mad at him, he try's to forgive and forget. That show a lot of control. The Rocket boys had integrity because they never gave up their dream for rockets. They worked and worked until the rocket actually went perfect! This was a wonderful movie that showed me that dreams can be achieved. I am glad I watched this movie

Genetic Disorder Review
Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that is life threatening. This makes me feel bad that this disease can take someone’s life away when they want to live. The blog says that it is a very common disease that gets passed down if both of the parents have at least one of the alleles. This shows that this disease can be passed down easily. This makes me feel sad. The blog also says that it kills 30,000 people in the United States. Those are a lot of people! Most of these people don’t even get to live a full life. The blog says that a person who has this disease only lives up to an average of thirty-seven years. This makes me very upset. I hope that doctors can soon find a cure for this. I hope they find something that prevents Cystic Fibrosis from killing someone or at least have something that will help people with this living longer. When this happens there will be more happy humans in this world.

Genetic Disorders
Sickle Cell Anemia. Have you ever heard of that? Well, that it a genetic disorder. It was first discovered by James B. Herrick in 1904. He discovered it inside a dental student from Grenada. Sickle Cell Anemia occurs when a person inherits two abnormal genes that cause RBCs to change shape. RBCs are usually disk shaped or looking like doughnuts. When a person has Sickle Cell Anemia their RBCs are stiff and shaped like an old farm tool called a sickle. This disorder occurs when abnormal forms of hemoglobin produce. This could be a mutation. This causes the molecules to clump together. This makes the red blood cell ,who are trying to give oxygen, get sticky and fragile. People who do not know that they have this disorder can get many symptoms. Some symptoms are severe pain in the chest, arms, legs, stomach, ad may other parts. People can also get Jaundice and have trouble fighting infections. Many children with this disorder can grow slower than usual. When you go to a doctor, you would expect getting rid of the disorder. Well, that isn't possible. Doctors do not have a cure fore Sickle Cell Anemia. Doctors can only give medicines and hope that you take them on time. Most people survive from this disease, but some can die if not treated properly. More than 70,000 Americans have this. When a person as this it is mandatory for that person to take whatever the doctor says seriously. They have to take their medicines, vitamins, proper foods, and proper bed rest. in my opinion, this disorder is very complex so the patient should meet with their doctor almost every month. That will help them feel better.

Science conclusion
If detergent, papain, and alcohol are added to a plant cell, the DNA can be separated from the cell. When the detergent was added to the plant cell, the cell membrane broke apart releasing fat lipids. Then, papaine was added. The papain broke the protein that had the DNA. The DNA was now released. When the DNA was released a cloudy and dark thing was on the top of the surface.
The results of the experiment should be considered reliable because the alcohol was measured carefully. The other substances did not need to be carefully measured because the requirement was a pinch. This experiment was done very carefully and precisely to make sure everything turned out right.
From this experiment I learned how to extract DNA from a plant cell. This is a very useful to people who want to learn about DNA. The DNA from the plant cell can be studied or analyzed at a later time.

Roller Coasters in Physics
Have you ever ridden a Roller Coaster? People think that roller coasters are not educational, but in many ways they are. Roller Coasters use physics. Depending on the the type roller coaster you see how friction, gravity, potential energy, and kinetic energy is used. On a simple roller coaster, it uses force and potential energy to start. Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object. Then the roller coaster uses gravity to go down. Slowly when there are twists and turns, the roller coaster uses friction to slow down. It keeps on going and when it stops it uses friction and kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is energy in motion. People don't usually think that roller coasters use physics, but they do!

Motion, Force, and Energy Science textbook SS- Gaza reconstruction
Gaza is just a strip of land between Israel and Egypt. Right now the U.S is giving about $900 million for the reconstruction after war. The money is being sent to Gaza recover from Israel's offensive against Hamas last month. This money is coming from the Obama administration. United States Secretary of State is supposed to visit Gaza in the first week of March. She will attend the International Donors Conference on March 2ND to discuss the reconstruction Gaza needs. She is going there so the leaders can come together to think of a solution. Talks on renewing harmony are scheduled to begin in Egypt on Wednesday. This talk will be between Hamas and Abbas' Fatah movement. "This (new unity) government must have the acceptance and recognition of all parties," said Abbas. I think it is very good that people are getting together to help each other out. I am very excited to see what happens between Hamas and Egypt.
