Earthquake In NJ!!

On Monday February 2, 2009 the people in several towns in Morris County witnessed an earthquake! The magnitude of the earthquake was a 3.0. The largest earthquake in NJ was in 1974 with a magnitude 4.0. This happened on on Oct. 19, 1985. The most earthquake that we had on Monday surprised many people. They did no expect to have one. "It was unbelievable. I was sitting on the couch watching the TV, and it felt like an explosion right in my fireplace," said Hans Karl. Hans Karl was one of the people who had the floor beneath them shake. People living in Parsippany to Hackettstown to Bernardsville said that they felt something shake underneath them. In the end, it was stated that no one was injured or dead. Everyone who witnessed this earthquake was ok. I think this is really cool how we had an earhquake. I didn't think that there could be earthquakes in New Jersey, but I guess Iwas wrong.

Newton's Laws of Motion

In 1642 a very famous physicist was born. His name was Sir Issac Newton. Issac Newton was most known for his laws of motion. His first law stated that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by another force. Here Newton is trying to say that an object that is in motion or at rest will stay that way unless something else puts acts upon it. For example, a football on the floor will stay on the floor unless we pick it up. His second law shows how force, mass, and acceleration are related. The formula is force= Mass x Acceleration. This law explains why small cars have better car mileage than large cars. It is all related to mass. The mass of the larger car requires more force than the smaller car. This causes their car mil age to be better. Newton's third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. An example would be walking. When you walk your feet are pushing against the floor. At the same time, the floor pushes against your feet giving an opposite force on your feet. These laws are used everyday, but we just don't pay attention to what we are doing.

Global Warming Suprise

Antarctica was the only place that had seemed immune from climate change, but now it has joined the rest of the continents. Scientist said that the temperature was staying the same or slightly cooling in Antarctica. Now a new study show that Antarctica, like every other continent, is now getting warmer too. It's temperatures have started to rise. Global warming has now reached all the six continents. The cause of Antarctica's global warming has not been caused by man-made fumes. It has been caused by green house gasses. These gasses are very harmful. The problems on global warming will rise, but we have to try to stop them from going out of control, otherwise everything will go wrong. I think that people should worry about the world, not pollute it. This planet is our home, it is time to protect it. SS-The Inauguration 2009

On Tuesday January 20, 2009 over two million people went to Washington DC to watch the Presidential Inauguration. It was a very historical event. Barrock Obama is now our new President. There is a lot of pressure on his shoulders with solving the problems the country is facing. Still, we have faith that he will do it.

This Inauguration was being shown all over the world. Many People knew how much this event meant. Poeple of all races thought this was a great beginning. Hussein Mohammed Ali is a teacher in Baghdad. "I feel so proud and happy today because Obama, a black man like me, will assume the post of president of the world's most powerful country," he said. I think this shows how proud people are to see an african american president fro America. This also shows respect for a new president in charge.

During the Inauguration, many people were proud to be watching this event. It made many emotional. One particular line caut people attention. In his words, president Obama stated, "Greatness is never a given. It must be earned." I think that he ment we have to work for what we want. After the Inauguration many people congradulated President Obama. He thanked them and then he went in his limo. Many people were outside to see our new President. Soon both President and First Lady came out. They continued to walk on feet for two blocks and them went back in their limo. They were both extremely happy, so was everyone else. They waved and cheered. I think they did this because they were trying to show respect for the people outside.

Drug made from a goat!!!

Goat milk can make cheese, but it can also make a drug. The drug is called ATryn. It is used for people who have rare hereditary disorder that exposes them to blog clots. These blood clots are life threatening to these people with the disorder. This drug was developed in a Massachusetts company called GTC Biotherapeutics. They used the genes of goats so they could use milk rich in a protein. This protein is called antithrombin. This protein used for thinning blood. The drug, ATryn is for use only when patients are having surgery or having a baby. It is at these times because here the risk of dangerous clots is high. ATryn is a very useful drug.
